First off, got my very first comment from Kade (founder of redalertsocialmedia.com)! How awesome is that!!

As I had mentioned in the previous post, I was going to write another post about Aimee Woodall, one of the many speakers at PR Day in Houston.

Aimee’s presentation that day was not only hilarious but it definitely caught the attention of the young professionals and college students in the room. I’m sure all the older, more structured professionals were caught a little off guard with everything because her presentation was a bit “out there” for them. I’m definitely sure they were shocked at her use of streaking as an analogy for public relations and the usage of the words “balls” and “getting naked” throughout her presentation. I, however, found it inspiring!

It’s the “SHOCK” and “AWE” factor this agency has that intrigues me.

I’m going to apply for her spring semester internship, wish me luck!

This upcoming fall semester brings many new opportunities for me, as well as fellow students. As the new vice president of PRSSA, I am happy to bring back this student organization for the 2012-2013 school year along with our newly selected officers. We hope to accomplish a solid foundation this year to keep this organization running for as long as possible.

Currently, I am following this years new National PRSSA President Lauren Gray. Reading her blog posts has inspired me to do more with this organization than just getting it going and gaining as many members possible, but to give these members invaluable experience and knowledge in PR.

Something from Lauren’s Blog stood out that I wanted to share:

It was confirmed April 24, 2012 that a case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) was found in a dairy cow in central California.

“BSE is a progressive neurological disease among cattle that is always fatal,” said USDA Chief Veterinary Officer, John Clifford.

The carcass of the animal was held under State authority. It was reported that the animal was not intended to be slaughtered for human consumption.

For more information, see the full statement given by USDA Chief Veterinary Officer, John Clifford.

A few students and I have taken the initiative to bring back an organization, Public Relations Student Society of America, that has been dormant for the last year.

For the last few weeks we have accomplished many tasks such as writing an email to bring in prospective members, make a list of future guest speakers, and be continually involved with PRSSA online through facebook and twitter.

I am currently working with the Drupal program and updating the TAMU PRSSA website.
